Here, here, here we go
[You want to know what kind of sleep you had? Quite frankly, it doesn't matter, not when it's interrupted by the sound of a cuckoo clock. When you're awake enough to look over and see what woke you up, you can see a small bear figurine popping in and out o- wait, what? It suddenly occurs to you that this isn't at all where you went to sleep last night.
But...it's nice enough. It's a wooden cabin, and seems to have been decorated with neat matching furniture. Your rather small bed is flanked by the cuckoo clock, and which for the life of you, you can't figure out how to shut off...which doesn't matter much when it stops a few moments later regardless. The time reads 7 AM, which might very well be far too early for your tastes.
When you actually start to look around a bit, you may or may not find one personal object on a nearby dresser, but more importantly, you might eventually notice is a small device somewhere on your person. If you can figure out how to work it, pressing the screen will reveal a profile containing information about yourself, and scrolling down reveals several different ones for strangers. It only serves to raise more and more questions - just what is is going on?
Suddenly, without warning, a screeching sound interrupts the last of whatever peace you might have had, and a voice blares out throughout the entire camp:]
Rise and shine, campers! Please make your way to the Mess Hall by 8 AM sharp!
[There's another screeching sound, and...music begins to play. It's not loud enough to drown out your speaking, but it's annoying, especially when you take into consideration that it doesn't stop playing. Ever. It just keeps repeating. Background music! It seems to be coming from the loudspeaker in the middle of the camp, and does generally get quieter the further you move from in. In addition, you'll find that the music seems to disappear entirely when you enter some buildings - such as the Theater and the previously-mentioned mess hall.
Speaking of which? When you finally exit your cabin, you'll find your feet meeting a cobblestone path - and down this path are more and more cabins. Going beyond the path, you'll find that nearly all the ground in the area is grassy, but luckily, there are a few dirt paths here and there to help you get to where you need to go. If you ignore the oddities, like the giant stone walls that surround the camp or the constantly-burning bonfire? It's almost kind of serene.
The sun is shining, and it's a lovely day for camping. It's time to mix and mingle.]

Well met, Sir Mac...ya already know mine, but..Ah'm Nephenee. Not...real sure where the 'Marigold' bit came from...less whoever brought us h-here knew what my name means...
[Which is...weird and kind of disturbing to think about, so let's not dwell on that.]

Ashunera? I did know there was a flood at some point but that isn' the name I know. How does that story go?
[Because the very first thing you do when you meet somebody from another world and time is compare mythologies. Duh]

Oh. Well...the goddess Ashunera created the world, an' over time, animals evolved into a race called the Zunanma, that were sorta animals that could talk an' walk on two legs if they wanted, that worshipped her. Eventually, they became the two races we have today, Beorc an' Laguz. Um...Beorc are what ya'd call humans, but "human" ain't used as a nice term back my way. Laguz naturally look like types of animals, but they can make themselves look almost like Beorc.
[In other words, they're almost best described as were-creatures.]
But the two races started fightin' real bad, an' in her grief, Ashunera flooded the world with her tears...It's said the only Tellius was left. After that, the races separated, an' gave us the kingdoms we had til recently.
That's the end o'the story as it was taught to me as a sprout, anyway...
[There is so much more to it than that, but she doesn't want to overwhelm him at once.]

Wow...I had never heard of somethin' like this before. It's...I don' even know how to say it, but it's amazin'. The thought tears flooded the world sounds so...wow
[Mac looks pretty mystified. He was never really into myths and religion, he only knew the basics, but there's something about her story that amazes him]
I have heard tales of big floods and all, but I don' know the details. I don' think it was out of grief, though.

The tale doesn't say all o'this, but Ashunera was so upset by what she'd done, that she decided to do away with her emotions. So, she split into two bein's, Ashera and Yune. Ashera was then Order, Stability, an'Law, while Yune was Chaos, an' Transformation. She sealed Yune away in a medallion, the Fire Emblem, an' went to sleep, sayin' she'd wake up in a thousand years, if folks didn't break the seal on it...
[Judging by that trail-off, there's a lot more, but she doesn't want to overwhelm the guy. Not unless he asks...]

[The lancer nods, a little enthused that he's getting excited.]
Yeah, the seal was broken, in the year 649...war engulfed the entire continent as Laguz an' Beorc fought, an' in order to keep Ashera from passin' judgement from war breakin' the seal, the lady Micaiah sang a song, a galdr, that was passed down from one of the original keepers of the medallion. The song was supposed to release the seal in such a way that would prevent Ashera from passin' judgement if she woke 'fore the thousand-years was up, as she said would happen if the chaos o'war broke it...
...But when the seal was released by the galdr, and Yune, who had become known as the Dark God, was released, Ashera awoke...an' broke the agreement she made all those years before. She passed her judgement ov'r the continent, petrifyin' the people...less than 100 survived of the main group, protected by their strong spirits.
With the help of Yune, the Lady Micaiah and the Radiant Hero Ike, along with those under their command, fought their way to the top of the Tower of Guidance where Ashera waited. Man and Laguz fought together, defeatin' both the livin' enemies that were protected by Ashera, the reanimated dead, an' the dragon Laguz. Even the dragon king had decided it was their fate to succumb to her.
But they rewrote that fate, when Yune blessed the Radiant Hero's blade, an' he struck down Ashera, sendin' her back to sleep. Yune saved all the petrified people of Tellius, 'fore takin' her leave, an' the Radiant Hero left the land to explore the world, to see what places had survived the flood we thought only we'd survived.
[Funny how recounting history you lived like it was being read from a scroll knocked out some of your nerves.]

Yeah, Mac, you have a heroine in front of you. How do you react to that? Casually complimenting?
Even if you don' have a lance right now maybe you could make a temporal one! There must be somethin' in this camp you could use for that.
