WEEK 4

 WEEK 4

[Four weeks in, more and more students fall victim to Monobear's deadly game. Betrayus Spheros and Callie Kubodera have both passed on, and the pool of campers begins to thin out.

The camp has been mysteriously cleaned overnight, and the campers have been left with a golden key to take them to the
next world. The obligatory ice world:  less friction, more penguins.

On a special note, whenever a camper goes to visit Callie's grave today, they will find that it has been dug up. There is now a large hole where the SHSL Squdiol was once buried, and those who look around it will find no traces of squid nor kid.

Okay, Smashers. Rise and shine, and don't forget your booties cuz it's cooooooolllldddd   out there!]

Students remaining: 11

[ooc: Please don't forget to check in before the end of the week! You're still welcome to backtag and post in any of the previous logs and mingles as much as you like, don't feel that you should stop just because this log is up.

We're still encouraging exploration this week and if we missed anything last week or this week please ping one of our personal plurks so we can jump in. Please feel free to explore areas from previous weeks as well.]

[Your first pupil has arrived, Alastor, smiling and waving and looking not at all ready for a fight.]

Hello! Were you the one who made the chicken in the mess hall? It was absolutely delicious!
superstylishschism: (As if.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-22 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I figured everyone would appreciate something a little less...insulting. Glad to hear you liked it.

[He shoulders his foam sword with a proud grin.]

You hear for the self-defense lessons?
sunflowerfields: (I'll think of you night and day)

[personal profile] sunflowerfields 2015-10-22 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nodnod] Sure am! But I should warn you, I don't have the foggiest idea how to fight! It was never really a concern in my town.
superstylishschism: (Would you look at that.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-22 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, I was planning on starting with the basics. The most important things to know if you're on the defensive are how to block, dodge and fall.

[He holds up the foam sword like he's going to swing it at her upper body.]

Imagine this is a club or something, show me how you'd keep it from hitting your head or torso.
sunflowerfields: (To say)

[personal profile] sunflowerfields 2015-10-22 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hinawa already flinches as he raises the foam sword.]

Okay... um, like this? [She crosses her arms above her head... which leaves her middle wide open. Hinawa pls.]
superstylishschism: (As if.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-22 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you avoided one common mistake. But you're using both arms to defend one part of your body, and that's not a good idea.

[He whips the prop around to tap her on the side.]

It'd be easy to go after your ribs like this, so you want one arm lower, covering your chest and close enough to move to guard your sides.
sunflowerfields: (Don't be long)

[personal profile] sunflowerfields 2015-10-22 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see. So, something like this?

[She lowers one arm to cover her torso, and crouches a little for bonus effect.]
superstylishschism: (Would you look at that.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-22 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
There you go! And crouching is good, it helps you keep your balance from an impact. That way you can step back with the force instead of falling over.

Of course, if you can avoid it, you never want to take the impact head on. If you can, you want to sweep the guarding arm out to deflect the blow, that way you're not trying to absorb all of the momentum with your limb.
sunflowerfields: (I'll worry about you)

[personal profile] sunflowerfields 2015-10-22 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense! I certainly wouldn't want to take a real sword to the arm anytime soon. But... how do I do that sweeping bit?
superstylishschism: (As if.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-22 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
When the weapon hits, you move your arm out in an arc, like this.

[He holds his arm up in a block, then sweeps it to the side as if pushing something aside.]
sunflowerfields: (To me)

[personal profile] sunflowerfields 2015-10-27 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, can we try that next?
superstylishschism: (I've been looking forward to this.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Alright.

[He backs off and swings the bat around. Then he swings it down, though he pulls it somewhat to keep it at a reasonable speed.]
sunflowerfields: (I'll worry about you)

[personal profile] sunflowerfields 2015-10-27 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Hinawa lets out a squeak, puts her arms up to block like she was taught, and kind of... clumsily pushes the bat away, but at least she tried to follow Alastor's example.]
superstylishschism: (As if.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-27 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Could be worse, but it looks like you'll need a bit of practice.
