 WEEK 4

[Four weeks in, more and more students fall victim to Monobear's deadly game. Betrayus Spheros and Callie Kubodera have both passed on, and the pool of campers begins to thin out.

The camp has been mysteriously cleaned overnight, and the campers have been left with a golden key to take them to the next world. The obligatory ice world:  less friction, more penguins.

On a special note, whenever a camper goes to visit Callie's grave today, they will find that it has been dug up. There is now a large hole where the SHSL Squdiol was once buried, and those who look around it will find no traces of squid nor kid.

Okay, Smashers. Rise and shine, and don't forget your booties cuz it's cooooooolllldddd   out there!]

It'd be no problem if I had my powers, too. But since I can't call up a drizzle, let alone a downpour, and you don't have what I'm guessing is another of your Pokemon, a bit of hard work is our only option if we want something other than the lake filled with water.

"A bit" is an understatement, but I have to agree. Though you are correct; Kingdra is one of my Pokémon.

[She pauses for a minute.]

My starter, actually. Er...my very first one. She's been with me ever since I was a girl.

[Poking at a chocolate fudge sundae with a spoon.]

You think she's still back home, waiting for you?

I think the bear has her. And the other three members of my team.

[Clair looks down at her ice cream again. It's starting to melt, so she shovels into her mouth a few more bits before continuing the conversation.]

When I asked him about it before, he wouldn't give me a straight answer.

At least...he might be keeping them safe to try to use against you.

[He sighs and scoops up a bite of his own sundae, then sticks the spoon into the ice cream.]

You think the last group of hostages is okay? I mean, I trust Joe as a hero, but we don't know what's out there, and he's...well, I just have to hope at least one person there is good at fending for a group.

[Taking a few more bites out of her sundae.]

From what I've heard, it seems many of the people in that group are quite competent. Luigi's brother, this Joe you mention frequently, and my cousin Lance. If Monobear doesn't need them any more, I'm sure they'll be able to get out on their own. Maybe they'll even be able to get us out.

[...though she can't imagine what it'd be like for the ones who've lost people here. Callie's grandfather, for example. Facing him would likely be the toughest battle she's ever faced.]

I hope so. I'm sure Joe's already looking for us and making his goofy speeches about how a hero always rescues people in distress and stops the bad guy. 'T's just easy to worry when you don't know anything...

[He takes another bite of his ice cream, and then winces.]

Not to mention facing Silvia after we've both been missing...

Yes, it is. Believe me, I know.

[Shaking her head.]

I've been worried ever since we got here. There' no telling what he plans on doing next. Even if the last motive was weak and the one that follows it ends up being weak too, we can't rule out someone dying. Just look at what happened to Callie.

[No one thought anyone would fall for such a dumb motive. Boy, were they wrong.]

But we can't spend so much time worrying about whether or not someone's going to snap that we don't get anything done, either.

...But I might have an idea. Apparently Callie was onto something about going under the barrier. Have you seen that weird mole guy poking around?

Unfortunately. I tried to get him to help, but all he did was yell and ignore every question I asked!

Uh...think we're talking about different moles, then. Probably the brother this guy mentioned.

He told me he came in under the walls, because the barrier was in the way up top.
