How often should I let them out? And do they sleep in these things?

There's no real set amount, but at least three times a day during meal times, for about an hour or two per session. Though really, you can leave them out for as long as you want, providing you put them back in before bed. They do sleep in them.

They're humanoid robots. Not sure I'd quite call them androids, but...they used to be the footsoldiers for the evil organization I worked for. Now they work as stagehands and gofers.
