THIRD TRIAL

[Ashley Blair, the SHSL Witch-in-Training, is dead. She's had her life snuffed out, but how and why? It's a murder both mysterious and menacing.

Portraits of Betrayus and Ashley, depicted in monochrome coloring, stand at their podiums. But more importantly, the courtroom this time is an exact and functional replica of the Eggman Factory. If only for the evidence they'll never be able to move...

Will they be able to use this evidence to find the truth? Or will the culprit's confusing conundrum get the best of them?

10 students remain.]

[Let the class trial in the murder of Ashley Blair...begin.]

...That's it?
tsungeonsanddragons: (...huh?)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-24 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember what Shadow said? A Rube Goldberg machine is an "unnecessarily complex creation to accomplish a simple goal". The claw was likely supposed to drop something important. Either the gear or a piece to trigger the rest of the machine.
superstylishschism: (Oh yeah...)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-24 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. But it's more than likely that that was just it returning to its starting position.
shslancer: (Not real sure what this is)

[personal profile] shslancer 2015-10-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any other gears we can test it out with?
superstylishschism: (Sorry but you're not funny.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-24 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
We might be able to pull the one out of the wall. But there'd be a lot to reset, and then we'd be risking someone getting hurt.

I think we need to focus less on how the contraption works, and more on who knew about the lab and who could put something like this together.
chaoscontrol: (you bitch)

[personal profile] chaoscontrol 2015-10-25 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
True. While I am familiar with this location in.. a way... I haven't been spending much time in this area. [he frowns, grumpily, into his sweater] It's too cold. Besides, if I were to make a machine to kill someone, it'd be much more efficient. This thing is ridiculous.
tsungeonsanddragons: (You need more practice.)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like the lab was well hidden. I found it with little effort, which means either we all missed it, or it was covered up and someone found it. The password seemed more difficult, but apparently "EGGMAN" was hidden away in a binder Luigi found.

[If he's telling the truth.]
superstylishschism: (Is that supposed to impress me?)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-25 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
And don't forget, we still don't know what happened to the contents. For all we know, it's got a map of the entire damn murder camp in it.
tsungeonsanddragons: (pouting)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Or instructions on how to build such a device.
superstylishschism: (Oh yeah...)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-25 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
There's also the question of the record player. Apparently someone wore boxes from the lab to take it from the party room for...some reason.
chaoscontrol: (huh?)

[personal profile] chaoscontrol 2015-10-25 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"EGGMAN" was the password? [he rolls his eyes] I'm so shocked. But wait, what binder?
tsungeonsanddragons: (Tch...you got lucky is all.)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds obvious if you know who he is, but if you don't...well...let's just say you regret it.

[If Shadow happens to look closely at Clair's head, he might notice a subtle bump there.]

Anyway, you'll have to talk to Luigi about that.

Um yeah, I found a binder this Monday that had the phrase "Eggman Inc" written on the cover. There might-a been some paper in it but it was ripped out before I got to it.
superstylishschism: (I don't know what to make of it.)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-25 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's something we'll need to discuss after the trial, since it's pretty clear the lab is somehow connected to this "Eggman" guy.

For now, we know that anyone who found both the binder and the secret room could've gotten in. Though, I'm pretty sure we can rule Clair out completely. I can't imagine her letting one of her Pokemon get hurt just to feign ignorance.
tsungeonsanddragons: (What's this...)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
That's correct. Even if I had any interest to murder someone, which I don't, I wouldn't injure my Pokémon or use them in my plan.

[She pauses for a moment.]

...though I will admit I do have a bit of knowledge when it comes to puzzles and the like. This Rube Goldberg machine is a bit confusing, even for me, but similar contraptions, though more efficient, are used in Gyms. It adds an extra layer of difficulty for the challenger to overcome.

tsungeonsanddragons: (I-it's not like I LIKE you or anything.)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Luigi, where did you find that binder, anyway? I asked you once before, and you didn't tell me.
green_mario: (Default)

[personal profile] green_mario 2015-10-25 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah sorry! I just-a found it while I was looking around the computer room. It wasn't exactly hidden...
tsungeonsanddragons: (?)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Then that makes it even more likely someone could find it and access that room.

[What a bother.]

After you found it, I assume you put it back?

[personal profile] green_mario 2015-10-25 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Y-yeah, I didn't-a think it was important enough information to take it with me for Thursday.

[Then suddenly a horrible guilt hits his stomach.]

S... sorry...
tsungeonsanddragons: (Tch...you got lucky is all.)

[personal profile] tsungeonsanddragons 2015-10-25 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
[...?]

But weren't you the one who hosted that meeting? Even if it was small, you should have brought it with you or at least mentioned it. Though, I suppose it wouldn't have done much good. If everyone knew about it at the meeting, it wouldn't be much different than now.
superstylishschism: (Oh yeah...)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-25 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, I've seen a contraption like this used as a trap before, but I kinda agree that it's absurd. They give the person who set it off too much time to get out of dodge.

Besides, no offense, but are your legs even long enough for you to be able to move with boxes on your feet?
chaoscontrol: (neutral talking)

[personal profile] chaoscontrol 2015-10-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
There are better ways to delay a trap. This has so many moving parts that I'm surprised it worked. Where have you seen a trap like this before?

[Shadow looks at his feet and legs, then shakes his head] Those boxes would have come up over my knees.
superstylishschism: (Is that supposed to impress me?)

[personal profile] superstylishschism 2015-10-25 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Back when I was one of the bad guys, my organization had control of a castle town. Someone had the bright idea to make a Rube Goldberg machine for the gate security. The really embarrassing thing is, it actually worked.
